Examiner.com is a dynamic entertainment, news and lifestyle network that serves more than 20 million monthly readers across the U.S. and around the world, and currently seeks regular writer contributors (“Examiners”). Examiners write from a local perspective in the third person. This generally includes tips and useful information on upcoming events, specials/deals/promotions, vendor and product reviews, interviews, reports on national or global issues relevant to the topic along with local resources, and other topic-related articles. Examiners work from home as independent contractors and set their own pace as far as when and how often they publish. Because the level of readership and earnings success is influenced by publishing frequency, those who publish at least 3 to 5 times a week tend to build a larger and more engaged audience.
Description:
Examiners are passionate local insiders who come from all backgrounds but have two main traits in common – a lot of knowledge about a specific topic AND solid writing ability. Examiners get their own dedicated page on the Examiner.com website, complete with a photo and bio, helping elevate their exposure as their city’s topic expert. The following are the categories and topic areas we are actively seeking writers for:
What’s in it for me?
Most people become Examiners because of the exposure they receive from being on a Top 100 Web site and the additional opportunities that result from it. Although Examiners are paid, being an Examiner isn’t a “real job” and won’t make you much money – at least in the beginning. Examiners receive pay based on publishing frequency and Internet variables including page views, reader subscriptions, session length and advertiser interest. Generally, Examiners can expect to earn pocket change during their first couple weeks until they’ve developed a library of articles and gained a following, and once they build readership their earnings grow. Because the level of readership and earnings success is influenced by publishing frequency, those who publish often and participate in Editorial projects tend to build a larger, more engaged audience and see higher page views and earnings.
While it may not be a gig that will support you, many Examiners have used their column as springboards for further success in their field, while established writers have made their columns integral extensions of their writing careers. Examiners often gain invitations to attend special events, requests to review products or services, offers to be quoted in the media as the local expert, and other doors of opportunity may open up. Your portfolio on Examiner.com also looks great on your resume. There are never any fees to be an Examiner.
This is the ideal opportunity for you if you relate to any of the following:
- I already have a job but seek something fun and stimulating to do where I can also earn extra cash, network with active and smart people, and learn new tech and media skills.
- I’ve been unemployed and don’t want a big gap on my resume, but am not able to commit to anything that will prevent me from continuing my job search.
- I want to make a career change. I know so much but am having difficulty showcasing my knowledge to recruiters and potential employers because I lack experience.
- I am an expert in my field. While I’m not a professional writer, I love writing and am good at it. I’d love to share what I know with others, improve my community and gain exposure as the local topic expert.
- I’m an aspiring writer. I’ve been blogging for some time now but my readership isn’t where I’d like it to be and sometimes I wonder if anyone is reading my posts.
- I’m already an established professional writer and/or author and I want another writing outlet where I have more creative freedom, gain a stronger audience, and where I can develop my online writing skills.
