The Importance Of Mentorship


The other night, I gave a series of jokes. That's all it was: a series of jokes. They didn't have anything to do with one another. And although I got a few laughs, I felt disappointed because I've always wanted to deliver two-five minute bits like all of the comedy greats have.

After the show, I started walking back to the subway with my friend and mentor Quinn C.

The Evolution of a Joke

Yesterday I posted a video of a joke that's been consistently hitting for me. In this post, I attempt to track the idea from conception to finished product.

You'll notice that I document the performance history of the joke, tracking which lines garnered laughs and which did not. It's in my technical nature to break things down like this, as unartistic as it may seem.

How To Be A Comic - Surveying The Crowd

Last night, I participated in a comedy competition produced by Neil Griffin at the Pickled Onion in Brampton. There were five people, and I came in fourth. Fourth? That sucks donkey balls.

Did I get laughs? Absolutely. So what went wrong?

I failed to accurately survey the nature of the crowd, which hurt my likeability in the end. Luckily, the lessons learned were well worth the loss.
